Erasure

Trigger Warning: This piece discusses sexual assault.

What happens when you try to silence women? And what happens when the women’s words continue to fight back?

With these questions in mind, this erasure poem – also known as a blackout poem – was created from the full text of Christine Blasey Ford's opening statement to the Senate Judiciary Committee. I took a black marker to the paper to see what would remain and noticed that some words continued to peek through the thick Sharpie. Even the darkest ink cannot fully erase the power of Dr. Ford’s words and the power of women’s voices.
