Trail Walks
An essential activity
walking the trail
four steps behind
my four-leg-friend’s tail—
pitter patter of Nori’s paws kept meter
one-two,
one-two,
the grass newly broke past winter’s brown
it dances
as wind swooshes past
bringing nature’s harmony
the cows grazing,
gophers burrowing,
and
cougars calling, caterwauling,
singing nature’s melody
—and the song of nature brought cheer
to overwhelm the momentary absence
of contagious fear.
