What We're Grateful For
We wanted to share this article with our readers not to make light of one of the darkest years we’ve experienced, but to find some solace. We asked some of our writers and working witches what they were grateful for this year, and here are some of their responses.
“Despite all of the unexpected twists and turns that took place this year, I've learned a lot about myself and found my place. I transferred in the middle of this pandemic which inevitably came with some challenges but I've met my best friends and found a new love for rock climbing, and I couldn't be more grateful for the people that I've gotten to know this year.” - Anita Mukherjee, writer & editorial witch
“This year, I'm grateful for my family and younger siblings. As a college student, I feel that I don't spend enough time with my younger siblings because of classes and work, and of course living away from home. This year, I had the opportunity to reconnect with them and I can say we're all much closer now than we were prior to these months at home. I'm so thankful for this opportunity, I view it as a light in the darkness.” - Madelyn Fink, writer
“I am so grateful for my parents, who understood how tough this pandemic has been on me, and still offered their unwavering support. My best friend and roommate because without her and the rest of my friends I would have literally felt so alone. Financial security and my resilience throughout. And of course, the Coven fam because it's SUCH an amazing community. Coven allows me to follow my passion (that is, editing) and I'll be forever grateful for that!” - Atreyi Jayadutt, editorial witch
“This year I am grateful for the health of my friends, family, and myself. I am also grateful for the hard work of essential workers. Lastly I am grateful for the future and the changes it will bring.” - Lilly Delehanty, writer
“I am grateful for my friends and family who helped me get through quarantine and find the little joys throughout the day. As difficult as quarantine has been, I am grateful that I had the time to reflect more and learned much more about myself.” - Margaret Rand, writer
“2020 has not been the year any of us expected by far. However, while I was met with many uphill battles and rough patches, this year surprised me in a lot of ways I didn’t expect. I fell back in love with writing and gained the confidence to share my work with others through incredible publications; Coven is one reason this happened to me. Additionally, while quarantined in my small Austin apartment, I had midnight dance parties on the roof, and I ate cookie dough on the kitchen floor while simultaneously finding some of my best friends. 2020 gave me time to reflect, discover what I am passionate about and find a new version of myself, and for that, I am grateful.” - Emma Bittner, writer
“I'm grateful for my family, friends, and my cats.” - Cristina Thorson, editorial witch
“Whether you’re taking a break from a four-hour Friendsgiving Zoom charades game, dodging questions from relatives about why you’re still single or just having yourself a regular-ass Monday, any gratitude is good gratitude during this dumpster fire of a 2020. I am grateful that I have the kind of people in my life that make me full belly laugh at least twice a day. That I have a family I look forward to seeing. That each and every working witch here had a safe and loving home for the holidays and, for lord knows why, continue supporting and riding with us through the craziness that was this year. Oh and hey, I’m thankful you’re here.” - Alexandra Davis, founder & pink purveyor
